THE PROVINCE OF BURGOS, important villages

In the following we will recommend some of the interesting villages of the province of Burgos to you:

Frías: Medieval village in the north of the province of Burgos at the shore of the river Ebro. In the center you can see the castle, ’’casas colgantes‘‘ and the waterfall of Tobera....

Lerma:The village Ducalon is a village on the top of a hill which dominates the valley of the river Arlanza. The village is presided over by the Palacio Ducal, which is now the Parador Nacional and the church of the school San Pedro. Around these there is a wide porticoed square and various other monasteries of other religious orders which give Lerma a monastic and courtly appearance.

Santo Domingo de Silos: A village situated in the mountains in the southeast of the province of Burgos. Here we can find an outstanding monastery of monks and benedictines and its impressive enclosure.

Covarrubias: 40 km away from Burgos, 17km from Santo Domingo de Silos and 22km from Lerma there is a village that can be encountered in the same heart of the Castilian history. It was declared a historic artistic unity and has an enviable and privileged setting. It is surrounded by a lot of history, art, culture and legends.

Orbaneja del Castillo:This village situated in the north of the province is a historic artistic unity since 1993. Its town center is characteristic for its intertwining narrow streets of medieval style that are adjusting themselves to the towering orography. In the cave of the water begins the river that divides the village in two areas (the small-town and the village) and that shortly before uniting its waters with the Ebro converts itself into an impressive waterfall.

Medina de Pomar: Situated in the north of the province its centennial doors of its city walls give access to medieval streets and routes, where you can find solid establishments, city walls, arches, doors, blazons, armories and magnificent churches of great artistic and religious interest.
